Lessons from San Quentin
CCN Founder Bill Dallas Collaborates with George Barna on Prison Memoir
(Carol Stream, IL) Real-estate entrepreneur. Male model. Breaker of women's hearts. Golden Boy of the Bay Area. Self-centered jerk.
That's how Church Communication Network's Bill Dallas describes his life in Lessons from San Quentin: Everything I Needed to Know about Life I Learned in Prison, co-written with George Barna (February 2009 from Tyndale.) Prior to being convicted at age 31 of embezzlement and sentenced to five years at San Quentin State Prison, Dallas was living a life other men envied. During the day he raised investment capital in risky real estate deals. Late at night he cruised the San Francisco party scene in a stretch limo, vodka cocktail in hand, indulging his tastes in nightclubs, women, and designer clothing.
“While some people are known for being type A personalities, I was easily a type triple A,” writes Dallas. “I wasn't just living in the fast lane; I was going so fast I was burning down the median strip!”
Bill Dallas's charmed life changed dramatically when he was charged, convicted, and sentenced to prison for felony grand theft embezzlement. Lessons from San Quentin tells the true story of how one man's life was changed for the better due to the hardships he encountered at the legendary maximum-security prison. The book chronicles Bill's journey from narcissistic playboy to suicidal inmate to spiritual apprentice, and recounts the life lessons he learned along the way — the hard way.
“Doing time in San Quentin was by far the hardest thing I have ever done,” reflects Dallas. “But it was also the best thing that ever happened to me, and I would not trade a single minute of that ordeal. I've written this book for people who are going through struggles and need to know they can survive, and for those who think that God's not at work in our lives.”
